"We adopted a preteen who was well known in the community and with DHR as a problem child. He had been neglected and abused physically and sexually for much of his life, beginning in infancy. At the time of his placement into our home he had many severe issues such as fire starting, sexual acting out, violent outburst and screaming, hoarding, and kleptomania. His diagnosis includes autism, PTSD, ODD, ADHD, and a phonological disorder. We were told by DHR that there wasn’t much hope for him and that if we decided to terminate the adoption he would go to a group home. You can see that everyone had given up on this child. That troubled us and tugged at our hearts. Maybe things would be different if he were adopted and given a new lease on life? At first we were very optimistic and felt that all he needed was a loving family to right all the wrong that had occurred in his life. We kept up with all Psychiatric visits and medication. We also provided many therapists over the years. He has been hospitalized numerous times for his sexual acting out, and violent tendencies. He saw a sexual disorder specialist for 2 years. This helped us as parents identify his problems, but we saw no improvements in his inappropriate behaviors. He was then placed in a sexual disorder program for young adults, but was kicked out for his violent outbursts and strange obsessions. We were told by every single treatment facility that because of his autism he would likely be unsuccessful in their program and therefore his applications were denied. The treatment centers for children with autism told us that they could not treat him because of his acting out and also denied treatment. At this point, our family was ready to give up. We had tried everything we knew of! DHR had been assisting us for over a year trying to find help for our child. As long as he had these behaviors we saw no room for success in our home. We couldn’t give up though. We love our child. We adopted him to give him a loving home environment. So we brought him home from the hospitals who said they could no longer help him. Within two weeks he physically attacked me, and had to be hospitalized yet again! So at this point his doctors all said he can’t keep being hospitalized for his bad behavior. He was sent back home with the prospect of going to a detention center if he acted out violently again. With absolutely no hope for this child we felt it would be best to give him over to the state. A friend of ours heard about the situation and asked if we would consider Dr. Brown. She had read a testimonial of a child with problems very similar to our child’s. It really sounded too good to be true! I had never heard of treatment like Dr. Brown offers! But the very next day after I heard of him there was something about this type of therapy that changes the brain on television! So we decided it was worth the cost. We had tried everything else and this was our last hope. We still felt like it probably won’t work for our child. My son has been seeing Dr. Doug Brown, since January of this year, (2013). Of course we are still maintaining his psychiatric visits, but we are no longer using his previous therapist. Dr. Brown is filling that position. After his first visit with Dr. Brown, he was already applying one of the calming techniques of counting math on his own! Our child was doing so extremely well that we slacked off on his visits. For an entire week he didn’t do the prescribed exercises. He started becoming threatening again, and very aggressive in his speech! This is how we now know that Dr. Brown’s techniques work. We are back on his exercise routine and regular appointment visits because we see the real importance and how it truly helps our child. Since his treatment with Dr. Brown began we have seen absolutely none of the behavioral problems that we were dealing with in the past!!!! We are still learning very much about the brain from Dr. Brown. Our child loves his visits and the personal attention he receives. It is very exciting and comforting to know that we can help our child. He is living a happy, normal life! We wish that all families dealing with similar circumstances had knowledge of this type of therapy."

"About two years ago our son was diagnosed with Asperger’s. We’re thankful in so many ways of how his brain works. He has many strengths and gifts that he might not have if it wasn’t for the way his brain is wired. There are, however, some challenges he has because of his Asperger’s. One of our greatest struggles that we have dealt with is his explosive temper. Screaming at us, putting holes in walls, hitting his sister, and obstinately resisting what we ask him to do has been a daily occurrence most of his life. Like any parents, these actions would break our hearts. Likewise, he would hate the way he acted after his anger subsided. Of course we did everything we knew to do to deter this behavior: executing every form of discipline; implementing positive reinforcement; teaching behavior modification strategies, etc. Certainly many of the above tactics worked at times, but there has not been marked, consistent improvement. A few months ago, we were asked to attend an hour lecture by Dr. Doug Brown. He shared with us the basic principles of chiropractic neurology. It peaked our interest enough to let him assess our son and see if he could help us with our difficulties. Our son went to see Dr. Brown and actually loved it after he went. He enjoyed hearing how his brain works and agreed to do everything Dr. Brown suggested to help him. For the last three months, he has rigorously done everything Dr. Brown suggested. Frankly, we have been blown away by the results that we have seen. his episodes of anger have been reduced by about 85% (we have been tracking his behavior). Within the last 30 days, he has lost his temper only five times as opposed to everyday in the past. During those five recent episodes, the intensity his anger and the length of time that the episode occurred was greatly reduced. We are so encouraged by the results of hi’s therapy and extremely excited about how we can continue to improve aspects of his disposition. We are convicted that not only will our son improve with his anger issues, but he can strengthen his empathy, his confidence in social settings, and other more minor areas with which we want to help our son. As we try to do in all areas of our life, we give the glory to God. We believe through prayer God placed Dr. Brown in our life."
